The updated Code of Fundraising Practice comes into effect on 1 November 2025, just over two months away.

Some charities have already been preparing for months. But if your organisation hasn’t had the headspace to focus on the digital aspects yet, you’re not alone.

The good news? There’s still time to get ready. And it doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.

We’ve created a one-page Digital Readiness Checklist to help you cut through the detail and prioritise what matters most in the time you have left. It’s practical, quick to use, and designed for busy fundraising teams.

Six Areas to Check Before 1 November

Here’s what the Code highlights, and why each area matters:

1

Transparency on Donation Pages

Donors expect honesty at a glance. Make sure your charity name, registration number, purpose of funds, and any fees are clear before they click “donate.”

2

Donor Experience & Fairness

Pressure tactics are out. So are unverifiable claims. Donors should be able to change or cancel recurring gifts easily, and accessibility should be built in (mobile-first, screen reader friendly, plain language).

3

Third-Party Platforms & Partners

If you use platforms like JustGiving or Facebook fundraising, check that contracts reflect the new Code, confirm your details are accurate, and log when you’ve carried out due diligence.

4

Contactless & Digital Collection Tools

Tap-to-donate devices and QR codes should display your name, purpose, and any deductions. Transparency isn’t just for websites.

5

Internal Training & Processes

Fundraisers, digital teams, comms colleagues, and trustees all need to understand the new principles. Run scenario tests and update your SOPs to reflect oversight and record-keeping.

6

Evidence & Audit Trail

Proof matters. Capture donation page screenshots, log due diligence, and make sure there’s a clear escalation route if issues are raised.

Start Small, Act Quickly

If time is tight, don’t try to fix everything at once. Start with your main online donation page and get that compliant first. Then work outwards to peer-to-peer platforms, Facebook fundraising, and contactless devices.

This approach ensures your highest-volume channel is covered, and gives you confidence you’re moving in the right direction.
